The Last Word in Watches
Every wolf pack has an alpha as well as an omega member. The alpha, the most confident and independent wolf, is the leader. The omega, on the other hand, lives as an outcast-- picked upon, ignored, and sometimes even starved. Clearly, in the world of canus lupus, omega is an unenviable position. It isn’t surprising that these unfortunate wolves often leave the pack to start their own.
In the world of watches, however, it’s best to be last. For over 160 years, Omega has been the final word in timekeeping; for almost as long, replica Omega watches have been available to those who desire the cutting edge style without paying the top dollar price.
In 1848 Louis Brandt set up his workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Before the century was through, he and his sons had created the first highly reliable mass-produced timepiece as well as the first minute repeating chimer.
During the twentieth century, the company continued to live up to its name, creating unique products, such as clocks that could be affixed to motorcycle gas tanks and raised-dial pocket watches for the visually impaired. For Amelia Earhart’s transatlantic flight, only its chronographs would do, and for the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, only Omega officially kept time.
A manufacturer of many firsts, Omega produced the first waterproof watch, the first diver’s watch, the first (and only) watch on the moon--. Its list of accomplishments could go on and on. How remarkable that the company isn’t named Alpha!
Today, the Last Word in Watches still leads the way in its field, developing first a camera/clock duo and then a video/clock combination timer for monitoring finish lines. It’s even the official sponsor of a solar-powered plane, the Solar Impulse.
But you don’t have to be Bill Gates to enjoy the look of a Seamaster or a Speedmaster or a Constellation or a De Ville. All are available as replica Omega watches.
